Bromley dad’s marathon run for BBB

Stevyn2

Stevyn Walder, husband of Hannah, one of our lovely volunteers, was celebrating last night after running 26.2 miles and raising over £1,000 for BBB. He is pictured here with his three sons, Arthur and Alfred (twins aged 3) and Oliver (aged 7).
About the race, Stevyn said “All of the training paid off and I managed to achieve my target of running a sub-4hr marathon…but only just! The weather was great for running and spectating, overcast and cool without rain. During the first half of the course, I had no trouble keeping my target pace.  The going got really tough in the second half and I had to dig deep to make the last 4 miles in target time.  When you dig deep, you look for anything to quieten the voice telling you ‘its ok to stop’ and keep motivated.  The crowd were once again fantastic, cheering all along the route and having family and friends strategically placed to offer energy snacks, drinks and moral support helped keep spirits up.  Also knowing I was raising upwards of £1,000 for such an amazing local charity.
It was only after the race, when I was recovering, that I found out I had topped the £1,000 mark which really made my day.”
Congratulations, Stevyn, from everyone at BBB. Thank you, and everyone who sponsored you, for helping us continue to support Bromley’s most vulnerable families.
Emma
Chair of BBB
